I wanted to talk about something my coach encouraged me to write about.
I am a woman, I am a mom and I have no stretch marks. Yes, I know this is not earth shattering news, but I figured that maybe other women would be interested to know how I managed to avoid the dreaded stretch marks through puberty and through pregnancy. Let me get one thing straight though, I have nothing against stretch marks and I do not believe there is a great solution out there for getting rid of them. Thus, if you already have them, embrace them! They are a sign that your body went through a change, so wear them as a badge of honor. You may not be a tiger, but you had to earn those stripes 😉
That said, I know that there are a lot of people out there who would like to avoid getting stretch marks, and I wanted to share what worked for me.
1. Genetics- Ok, undeniably genetics play a huge role in skin tone and quality. Chances are, if your mom and dad don’t have stretch marks you won’t either. This is one thing you can’t do anything about but you can minimize risk with my other 2 tips.
2. Lotion- I usually used two different lotions– Palmer’s cocoa butter and Sephora brand face & body lotion, but I think almost any good lotion will work. Lotion helps improve the elasticity of your skin so you are less likely to get stretch marks.
3. Don’t gain too much weight too quickly– I put on about 30 pounds during my pregnancy, slowly, over 9 months. Obviously if you are gaining weight faster than your skin can adapt, you will get stretch marks. Make weight changes slowly, both gaining and losing, that way you give your skin enough time to adapt.
