‘Roid Rage

Anavar, Clenbuteral– These are the steroids of Bikini. I am sure some girls venture into more serious drugs but as far as I have been told, these are the main “steroids” bikini girls take. But why are girls in bikini taking steroids when they require the least amount of muscle out of all categories? Because bikini still requires some muscle and in competitor’s haste to get to the stage and be competitive against others, steroids offer a decided advantage. I also believe that because the age of bikini competitors is usually younger, there is less opportunity to gain mature muscle mass the natural way.

I mentioned earlier in my “secrets of a bikini competitor” post about the tricks many competitors use to get a smaller waist and lose water weight and cellulite and this is really just the next iteration of that. These are the small differences that set some competitors apart from the others and that make it difficult for natural competitors to do well. From what I have read, anavar helps build muscle with very few side effects and clenbuteral helps you lose weight without losing much muscle mass. I also know girls who have used these drugs with success. Of course, that is not to say that they weren’t dieting and training their butts off, but nonetheless, they said they noticed a big difference on the ‘roids.

I am not going to lie, I have consider steroid use but I have not taken the plunge. It is frustrating because many of the top teams offer drugs under the table to their top competitors. I do not build muscle easily. It took me a good 6 months to gain 6 pounds and when I got sick I lost some of that. That is why steroids look so appealing to me and I am sure other girls feel the same way. In an effort to build those gorgeous glutes and stunning shoulders a little help from some gear would be a blessing, right? Well, not if you screw up your hormones, metabolism and potentially your heart and liver. Plus, because so few steroids are regulated for quality, you don’t know what you are getting. And all for what? A plastic trophy. No thanks.

I am not sure if I am being naive but I really want to believe that with proper training and diet you can get the “bikini look” without the use of drugs. I am not here to judge you if you are using any type of steroid– that’s your choice– but for now I want to remain natural and see how far my body can go on its own.

What do you think? Have you tried gear?

I am glad I came across this blog. I’ll share a story with you that relates to your blog.

I recently became interested in a girl at my gym. She was coming in very early in the morning and I missed my first opportunity to politely introduce myself so I was hoping to gain another chance. But I kept missing her. I spoke with a female friend who worked out at around the same time and she commented that she thought she knew where the girl worked. I spoke with a couple of other people and, because everything is so public (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) we were able to see that this girl was a sponsored bikini competitor. Now, the few times I saw her she looked skinny as a twig; when I went to her Instagram page and I saw her stage shots she looked incredible. I couldn’t make the connection. Utilizing my extensive gym network I found out that the girl I had been trying to meet had hooked up with a trainer who was a known Gear dealer, who encouraged his clients to do it. He had a lot of clients, mostly young girls who did bikini competitions – but what truly enraged me was that this girl was only 21 (she looked a little older than that).

What infuriates me is that there are parasites like this trainer/dealer and his fiancee who prey on these young girls by selling them a shortcut to their dreams. It’s incredibly dishonest, especially when these girls are so young they’re not making informed decisions about what they’re putting into their bodies. And, even if I didn’t have a reputable source which all but confirmed she was using Gear, all I had to do was look at her AMAZING progress in the span of 20 weeks. I’m so tired of the trainer-dealer-boyfriend type. Who knows what this guy is giving this girl and what damage it will do to her down the road. And it makes it so much harder for all the girls who put in the work and train clean to win in a competition that was designed to showcase naturally athletic and fit women. It also makes it harder for trainers who tell the truth to sell the idea of hard work and clean eating over the long haul, when there are so many other trainers out there who sell the notion of less work (but still plenty of hard work), clean eating and results in 6 months or less.

I’m not sure I can stand by and do nothing about it any longer. I don’t have a problem with people who make informed decisions about what they put into their body; it is their life to do with as they please so long as they’re not hurting anyone else, but when it comes to young girls who don’t have a lot of experience with bodybuilding and who are susceptible to coercion, I think those of us with a deep background need to take a stand. It has to stop. At SOME point enough is enough.

Thank you for writing your blog.

Thanks for sharing your story. There are a lot of “trainers” out their selling smoke and mirrors. I hope my blog can help people see the fitness world for what it really is– both good and bad.
